NEW ULM - A 13 year-old Sleepy Eye boy's cancer treatment is at the center of a child protection case pending in Brown County. A hearing is scheduled today in Brown County District Court in the case regarding Daniel Hauser, 13, of Sleepy Eye. According to a child protection petition filed in Brown County District Court, Brown County Family Services started a child protection assessment on April 7 after receiving a report from a doctor alleging medical neglect of Daniel.

Bruce Sellner has a small room in his garage where a line of singed white styrofoam boxes stretches for most of the length of the room. NEW ULM - A former New Ulm woman currently living in Faribault was charged Thursday of making the bomb threats against several area post offices - including New Ulm and Sleepy Eye -in February. Criminal charges were filed Thursday against Christine Anne Reineke, 38, of Faribault, in U.S. District Court.

NEW ULM - A 13 year-old Sleepy Eye boy will have to undergo medical evaluation and could have to resume chemotherapy treatment for his Hodgkin's Disease, a Brown County judge ordered Friday. District Judge John Rodenberg issued his decision Friday morning ordering Daniel Hauser's parents to get him a new chest x-ray and to select an oncologist to review his case in time for a review hearing on May 19.

I was born and raised in the Minneapolis area and I've been writing since I was a child.
My professional career began at the New Ulm Journal, where I covered crime, courts and Brown County government, among many other things. While there, I broke national news stories about fires, plane crashes and a child who was at the center of a custody battle over his chemotherapy treatment.
I continued my journalism career at the Post-Bulletin, one of Minnesota's largest daily newspapers. I was the city reporter in Austin, Minn., and covered the K-12 and higher education beat for that area. I broke more national news - this time, it was about a tour bus rollover and then a retrospective about the 1985 P-9 labor strike, in addition to plenty of leading local news coverage.
